Chief Information Officer

Acting President David W. Harris appointed Arthur B. (Barney) Maccabe as Interim CIO, effective February 1, 2007. Maccabe will hold the position for one year. Maccabe will be leading the ITS organization of 220 IT staff and 60 student employees. Harris made the announcement in December 2006 after William (Bill) Adkins announced his retirement effective January 31, 2007. Adkins had served as University CIO since December 2004.

Barney Maccabe announced that Holly Buchanan will serve as Deputy CIO. Buchanan is Associate Vice President for Knowledge Management and Information Technology at the Health Sciences Center and will concurrently serve in that position.

The CIO is charged with strategic leadership for the integration of Information Technology (IT) related functions across the UNM campus. A key element of this charge is the development of governance and organizational structures that will support this integration. The CIO also chairs an IT Cabinet put in place to bring together IT constituents from across the University to address this critical institutional issue.

Drs. Maccabe and Buchanan will be working to define and prioritize new projects and lead campus-wide IT initiatives from strategic planning to governance.
