FY 2006 - 2007 Annual Report
Organization
Fiscal Year 2006 - 2007 was marked by comprehensive organizational change
- July 1, 2006 — Telecom and CIRT merged into Information Technology Services (ITS).
- Bill Adkins, CIO, Retired.
- Barney Maccabe, PhD, appointed as Interim CIO.
- Maccabe appointed Holly Buchanan, PhD, as Deputy CIO.
- Cecilia Aragon hired as Director, Administrative Services Unit.
- Many Technical and Functional staff transitioned as Project LINK wrapped up.
Project LINK
- Student, Academic and Financial Aid implementations were completed.
- All applications in development and production were upgraded to Banner Version 7.
- The infrastructure portion of Project LINK was completed.
- Improvements to the Operational Data Store (ODS) and Hyperion reporting functions were made to improve performance.
- End-user training has netted improved system use, and consequently an improvement in overall system performance.
New Directions
- Maccabe funded a new position, Director, Information Assurance, to be filled in 2008.
- ITS embarked on the journey to apply industry best practices to internal workflow in the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standards.
- New policies were embraced by the University for IT Governance and Infrastructure (University Business Policy and Procedures Manual, Policies 2560 and 5310).
Operational Projects
- Power capacity upgraded in the ITS machine room.
- Implemented the Albququerque Gigapop (ABQG).
- Implemented On-Ramp to National Lambda Rail.
- Partnered with State and Local networking
- Replaced and upgraded main telephone switches of over 11,000 lines.
- Provided redundant high-speed connectivity to major UNM network hubs in a Fiber Mesh.
- Expanded spam filtering service to North Campus (@salud.unm.edu accounts).
