The University of New Mexico

IT Governance

In 2005, the CIO established the IT Governance Council, consisting of the Executive Vice Presidents, Vice President for Research and the CIO to provide direction on IT issues, review and approve the IT Strategic Plan, and provide a conduit for communicating IT issues throughout the University.

The IT Cabinet advises and informs the CIO on IT strategic and technical issues for the University.

Two additional groups were formed (2007) to support governance, IT Managers and IT Agents:

IT Managers from central IT service providers who recommend IT standards, guidelines and procedures.

IT Agents from (Banner Level 3) organizations across campus who participate in these processes and collaborate on regional and local service provisions.

Other cross-campus IT advisory and mission-specific groups have been convened such as, the Banner Steering Committee and IT Managers. The CIO and ITS leadership also participate in groups such as, HSC IT planning and leadership, the Dean's Concil, Provost Staff, and the Executive Cabinet.

IT Service Evaluation & Feedback

An important factor in the success of collaborative IT Governance is two-way communication. Communication entails not only disseminating information, but also gathering input, feedback, and engaging in dialog.

Higher Education TechQual+

One step in improving communication by gathering feedback is UNM's participation in the development of a national standard higher education survey for IT customer service evaluation, this survey is TechQual+.
