Gil Gonzales, Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Officer is charged with the strategic leadership of Information Technology across UNM.

Gil Gonzales joined UNM as Chief Information Officer (CIO) in August 2008. To date in his tenure, he has established direction to strengthen core services and broaden IT collaboration institution-wide, benefitting the entire State of New Mexico.

Prior to joining UNM, Gil was CIO at California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), where he provided administrative leadership and strategic direction for the planning and implementation of information systems and technology starting in 2002. He was also an associate professor at the CSUMB School of Information Technology, Communication and Design in 2006.

Gil had served as the Director of Content and Market Development at the start-up company, GoCampus. He also served in administrative positions in the areas of information/technologies management, library management and academic support for 12 years with the Maricopa Community College District.

Gil has a Ph.D. in History from Arizona State University, Tempe and a Master’s in Library Science degree from the University of Arizona, Tucson.

He has been extensively published in the Educause Review and numerous other information technology and higher education publications.
