IT Initiatives

The CIO is coordinating — with cross-University input from IT and non-IT area leaders — IT requests to the 2007 New Mexico Legislative session, through the University, the New Mexico Council for HIgher Education/Computing Service and other state agencies.

There are numerous IT requests in the following areas.

  1. UNM Network Infrastructure: High bandwidth and availability of network service, partnerships in Albuquerque and with State agencies, and service across the state.
    • Internet 1 & Internet 2 connections
    • NLR final startup cost
    • Fiber to South Campus, TVI, APS
    • Wireless for Main Campus
  2. IT support for scholarship, instruction and research: Collaborative spaces to support faculty using technology to improve student success, improving communication with students, ensuring privacy and security of student information.
    • Enhanced classroom technology
    • Email for students
    • Staffing for IT security and privacy
  3. IT for Administrative efficiency and effectiveness: Reducing expensive IT redundancies across campus, making tunnel infrastructure safer and cheaper to maintain, supporting finance consolidation and the institution's fund-raising abilities.
    • Hosting machine room
    • Remove IT cable from tunnels
    • Banner Budget module implementation
    • Advancement module implementation
